Carbon and Resource Management

Carbon management is an emerging environmental field, with many medium to large public and private sector organisations looking to employ carbon / environmental managers; the course provides a critical approach to theories, techniques and methods in carbon and water management and provides students with a learning environment in which they develop their capacity for independent study, their ability to collaborate with others in team settings, and their capacity for critical thought and reflection; the broad areas covered include: a comprehensive introduction to carbon and water management, with particular reference to the resource management and carbon mitigation; the course explores the role of governments, carbon and water management; the impact of both cultural perceptions.

Entry requirements

Lower 2nd Class Honours degree in an appropriate/relevant subject or qualification or experience deemed to be equivalent.

Course modules

Semester 1: Sustainable water management; carbon regulation and policy; practical application of renewable energy technologies; dissertation. Semester 2: Carbon management; environmental management within organisations; plus options: global waste management; or urbanisation in 21st century; or urban regeneration; plus dissertation. Semester 3: Dissertation; global waste management overseas field trip (2012 China).

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on a combination of both coursework and on-line exercises; the coursework types include technical reports, case studies essays, presentations, group work, on-line forum activity and academic posters.
