The course invites you to develop your own artistic practice as well as pursue individual research within the wider disciplines of performance. It is aimed at emerging artists and graduates from a variety of disciplines that wish to take their performance work to a professional level. It is also designed to enable you to further develop your skills as an artist and practitioner. During the course you will be given the opportunity to create performance work for a range of environments including a black box studio theatres, galleries and interdisciplinary spaces. Practice based work is supported by critical and contextual studies in the form of lectures, seminars and screenings. There will also be opportunities to develop cross-disciplinary projects across the performing arts programme.

Entry requirements

We welcome students with qualifications in subjects across the performing arts spectrum; as a broad guide, we prefer students to have achieved the equivalent of a 1st or higher 2nd Class Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in a relevant field of study; equivalent qualifications are considered towards meeting the general entry requirements.

Course modules

Modules include: PG Cert: Performance studies; collaborative performance; PG Dip: The PG Cert modules plus Interdisciplinary performance project; installation/site-specific performance. MA: The PG Dip modules plus professional portfolio; practice-as-research project.

Assessment methods

Assessment is continuous throughout and is based on a number of submissions including devised performances, presentations, portfolios and written essay work.

Graduates of University of Central Lancashire are entitled to 20 per cent tuition fee reduction if they are self-funded.
