Non-Surgical Facial Aesthetics for Registered Healthcare Professionals

The programme is designed to provide the busy general dental practitioner with a part-time educational route to further develop their skills and knowledge; this programme focuses on contemporary practice, teaching evidence-based principles and systems to ensure an optimal outcome for the patient and practitioner; during the course, students are expected to attend for up to 15 study/assessment days per year; students also need to allocate half a day per week to carry out clinical work related to the programme and to undertake background reading and coursework.

Entry requirements

Applicants admitted on to the course should meet the following requirements: have an Honours degree at lower 2nd Class or above; equivalent learning from other study or experience also serves to meet this requirement; be a registered Healthcare Professional (e.g. doctor, dentist, nurse); be registered with a defence union; hold a current certificate of immunisation against communicable disease (Hepatitis B); have sufficient competency in English language (IELTS level 7 or equivalent); competency may be demonstrated by qualification, accreditation of prior learning or separate University assessment.

Course modules

Modules include: Clinical knowledge of non-surgical facial aesthetics; clinical practice of non-surgical facial aesthetics; appraising the clinical literature; enhanced clinical knowledge of non-surgical facial aesthetics; enhanced clinical practice of non-surgical facial aesthetics; evidence based clinical practice; extended clinical practice module; professional project.

Assessment methods

Typical assessments would include analysis of given clinical cases, objective structural clinical examinations (OSCEs), portfolios and essays.
