Magazine Journalism

This vocational course is aimed at students seeking to pursue a career in the British magazine industry, both periodicals and supplements, you will be taught by staff who are professional journalists with backgrounds at all levels, on both national and regional magazines and newspapers and in other media.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd or 1st classification Honours degree from a British higher education institution, or an equivalent overseas qualification; mature students with non-standard qualifications may also apply if they have substantial professional or other relevant experience; overseas students for whom English is a 2nd language need an IELTS score of 8.0.

Course modules

Modules include: Creating content; newsroom practice; digital journalism; law for journalists; public affairs: Central and local government.

Assessment methods

Students must pass the coursework and exam components in all modules, achieve 100 words a minute in shorthand for the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) diploma and produce an original prototype magazine.

Sponsorship information

Graduates of the University of Central Lancashire have a 20 per cent discount on tuition fee if self-funded; National Council for the Training of Journalists bursaries for people from diverse backgrounds.
