Photography

This programme is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in: photojournalism; documentary photography; editorial photography; or fine art, central to the course philosophy will be the bringing together of theory and practice, modules will introduce the student to a series of concepts they will be encouraged to analyse and will develop an awareness of the issues and expectations of the area of industry they intend on working in, students will be introduced to a range of methodologies employed by photographers and will be encouraged to adopt aspects of these within their own practice, guest lectures by practitioners; editors; curators will help students build links with people working in industry.

Entry requirements

Entry by application form and interview; normally 2.1 in photography related BA (Hons) degree from UK or equivalent (non-UK) qualification; consideration given to alternative BA (equivalent) qualifications to applicants with creative industries' work experience; non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience are equally considered; we consider applications for prior learning (cert or experiential) which fulfils some of the learning outcomes of a course for admission with credit to an appropriate point on that course; students can apply either before or after they commence the course; applicants must have a minimum level of proficiency equal to IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules include: Research project; final project; or international project. Option modules may include: New media practices; the photographic witness; visualising the invisible; field work practices; space, location and territory; the colonising camera; live project.

Assessment methods

Work is assessed in a number of ways: Practical work; field work; presentations; essays; workbooks; and a dissertation.

Graduates of the University of Central Lancashire have a 20 per cent discount on tuition fee if self-funded.
