This flexible and dynamic programme equips students with the knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to work in a modern digital newsroom, it gives students an awareness of the journalist�s role in a changing media landscape enabling them to respond to the challenges and opportunities this entails, the flexible modular programme allows students to design an MA to their own interests, it is aimed at variety of applicants, some may have a first degree in another subject, but want a career in journalism, others may have a journalism degree and are aiming to extend their skills through an MA or it could appeal to the mature student seeking to develop an understanding of journalism and the industry, in short the programme can be designed to meet all needs.

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd or 1st Class degree, or equivalent; some relevant work experience; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0; interview plus sample of work.

Course modules

Modules include: Newsroom practice double module; digital journalism; practical journalism; law for journalists; digital publishing landscapes; the modern journalist; video journalism; international news and media; specialist writing such as business journalism or investigative reporting; publishing project; journalism theory; enterprise and professional practice; public administration and public relations modules.

Assessment methods

Most of the assessment for this course takes the form of coursework, there is a mixture of individual portfolio and project work and group coursework in the newsroom, law is a mix of essay, presentation and examination.

20 per cent discount in tuition fee for graduates of the University of Central Lancashire, if self-funded.
