Information Technology Security
This programme helps students to develop their computing skills in the theory and practice of computer security and forensic technology; this requires an understanding of hardware, operating systems, communications software, attention to detail, creative problem-solving, investigative skills and an appreciation of computer threats and security counter-measures; students also have the opportunity to work on a substantial project of their own choice; these skills can lead to a range of careers in systems management and computer security.
A recognised British Honours degree in a computing or associated discipline with a 2.2 or higher, or its equivalent; applications from all candidates are considered on their merits; for international students IELTS 6.5, or its equivalent, is a minimum requirement.
Compulsory modules: Master's project; critical evaluation; advanced topics in information technology security; computer security; optional modules: Ethical hacking; digital forensic investigation; information technology projects and people; database administration; network communications and routing; wireless networks and communications; web technologies; database-driven web development; the expert witness in the legal process.
