Social Work (employment secondment route)

The course prepares students for careers in social work and those who successfully complete the course are eligible to register with the General Social Care Council (GSCC) as social workers; the course equips students with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to practise as a newly qualified social worker and consists of 200 days structured academic learning and 200 days of learning in practice settings arranged by employers; key aspects of the programme include: a commitment to evidence-based practice; the development of communication skills; exploration of inter-professional working; consideration of all aspects of the assessment, planning, intervention and review of service delivery; knowledge of the law, policy, human growth and development, mental health and disability; all modules are compulsory and there are no electives; teaching and learning opportunities include lectures, seminars, student-led projects, presentations, workshops and self directed study.

Entry requirements

A recognised British 1st degree; or equivalent; or a business and technology education Council Higher Diploma/Certificate.

Assessment methods

Academic assessments include essays, presentations, and practice portfolio verification of student practice is undertaken by accredited assessors who meet GSCC requirements.
