Leadership and Management in Social Work and Social Care Practice

The course reflects the current important emphasis on strong leadership in the context of major reforms in social work and social care. The programme of study has been reviewed and developed to take account of The College of Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework. Building on the earlier professional experience and qualifications, candidates will have the opportunity to evidence their training and learning and contribute towards their continuous professional development (CPD); for qualified social workers the course will provide evidence towards the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) requirements for standards of CPD. Each module encourages candidates to consider existing best practice in leadership and management; develop new skills in supervision and coaching; and develop advanced knowledge in the theory and practice of management. The course will develop research skills and research-mindedness; it will evaluate the contribution of research to inform practice and enhance service delivery.

Entry requirements

There is a standard benchmark of a 1st degree at 2.2 or above in a relevant subject, but non-standard entrants with suitable leadership or management experience in social care and evidence of recent study will be considered. International applications must have an IELTS score of a minimum of 7.0. Applicants will normally be practitioners in an area of social care or social work.
