Mental Health Practice

This award is specific to qualified mental health practitioners (social workers, nurses, occupational therapists or psychologists) who are nominated and funded by their Local Authority to undertake the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) training. It is a part-time course over 1 or 2 years and includes a placement provided by the candidate's employer. The programme has received transitional approval by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Entry requirements

Applicants must be nominated by their Local Authority. Professional qualification/registration as follows: A social worker registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC); a 1st level nurse, registered in sub-part 1 of the nurses' part of the Register maintained under article 5 of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001, with the inclusion of an entry indicating their field of practice is mental health or learning disabilities nursing; an occupational therapist registered in part 6 of the register maintained under article 5 of the Health Professions Order 2001; or a chartered psychologist who is listed in the British Psychological Society's Register of Chartered Psychologists and who holds a relevant practising certificate issued by that Society.
