Sports Coaching

This programme aims to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of sports coaches; it addresses the UK coaching framework by focusing the content of the curriculum on the different pathways within the framework; participation coaching for children and adults and performance coaching for talented athletes and elite-level performers; students are challenged to question their coaching practice through critical reflection and are exposed to high quality participation or performance environments.

Entry requirements

Good Honours degree (or equivalent) in which a major part of studies has incorporated aspects of sports coaching or related disciplines; other graduates who can demonstrate a commitment to the study of sport or who have significant experience in the sport industry are considered for entry; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.0 or above; or equivalent; applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from degree-level studies are welcome.

Course modules

Modules include: Coaching: From philosophy to practice; the coaching process; the coaching environment; personal and professional development for sport; research methods in sport; analysis of coaching and performance; consultancy project; dissertation.
