This course is of interest to those who understand themselves as emerging or working practitioners in any area of the field of performance; this includes contemporary work, as well as more established forms of performance and theatre; 2 theoretical modules introduce students to research methodologies and the range of conceptual frameworks that inform, support and contextualise subsequent research interests; other modules are practice-based, and involve the submission of a proposal from which students can negotiate a project with tutors; depending on experience there is an option to take modules in educational drama.
Minimum of upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a related subject such as arts management, dance, design, drama, performing arts, theatre studies; professional experience and expertise can also be taken into account; candidates are required to attend a group-based workshop and interview.
Modules include: Research methods; frameworks and practices; performance practice 1; performance practice 2; substantial practical project or a dissertation.
Assessment methods include formal essays, portfolios of work, and performances.
