University of Chester
Secondary Education (Computer Science)
The programme is designed to meet the needs of trainee teachers throughout the 11-16 age range. In addition there will be an opportunity to be involved in an enhancement experience in the post-16 age range. By the end of the programme, we hope that our students will be: enthusiastic and confident in the classroom; pedagogically skilful and adaptable; specialists in the teaching of their academic subject; able to see their subject in the context of the whole curriculum; competent in a number of areas that cross secondary school curriculum boundaries; able to work as part of a team. Based upon the curriculum developed in 2012 by Microsoft, Google and The British Computer Society the trainees will engage with the current suggested curriculum, and investigate how to develop lesson content which will fire the minds of pupils and help them appreciate the potential of computer science for their future careers.
Minimum 2.1 Honours degree; GCSE C or above in English language and mathematics; satisfactory levels of ICT competence; at least 10 days observation in school - this will undoubtedly enhance your potential at interview and will allow you to show a demonstrable interest in teaching, especially within the subject area; this could be shown in a number of ways such as subject enhancement courses, learning mentor scheme, aim higher scheme, time spent as a teaching assistant (TA) or cover supervisor and/or other associated courses.
