University of Chester
Secondary Education (Design and Technology)
The programme is designed to meet the needs of trainee teachers throughout the 11-16 age range. In addition there will be an opportunity to be involved in an enhancement experience in the post-16 age range. By the end of the programme, we hope that our students will be: enthusiastic and confident in the classroom; pedagogically skilful and adaptable; specialists in the teaching of their academic subject; able to see their subject in the context of the whole curriculum; competent in a number of areas that cross secondary school curriculum boundaries; able to work as part of a team.
Minimum 2.1 Honours degree; GCSE C or above in English language and mathematics; satisfactory levels of ICT competence; at least 10 days observation in school - this will undoubtedly enhance your potential at interview and will allow you to show a demonstrable interest in teaching, especially within the subject area; this could be shown in a number of ways such as subject enhancement courses, learning mentor scheme, aim higher scheme, time spent as a teaching assistant (TA) or cover supervisor and/or other associated courses.
Assessment on the programme takes many forms, including lesson observation feedback, development of subject knowledge, assignments and the submission of teaching and professional files.
