Archaeology of Death and Memory

This is a cross-period and geographically broad programme that allows students to study, and gain advanced expertise in, the archaeological study of how past societies remembered and commemorated their histories and mythologies; students have the opportunity to investigate death, burial and commemoration in both prehistoric and historic societies from across the globe, as well as the archaeology of the human body and the past in the past.

Entry requirements

A good 2nd Class Honours degree, or equivalent, in archaeology or a relevant discipline. Credit exemption may be given for appropriate certificated or experiential learning undertaken or completed within the previous 5 years.

Course modules

Core modules: research skills in archaeology; investigating the past; optional modules: mortuary archaeology; archaeologies of the body; archaeologies of memory; research project (MA award).

Assessment methods

Assessment is achieved through written coursework comprising essays, reports, reviews and projects.
