Clinical Bariatric Practice

This programme provides students with education and training in the assessment and management of patients with morbid obesity both before and after surgery; students spend a number of weeks attached to a bariatric surgical unit; students gain clinical management experience with a particular emphasis on practical skills such as gastric band fills; this is an opportunity for professionals involved in obesity to learn best practice from experts in the field.

Entry requirements

Normally a 2.1 or above in an appropriate subject; applicants should ideally be working within the field of clinical bariatric practice or caring for obese patients.

Course modules

Core modules: Essential clinical management of the bariatric patient; type 2 diabetes and other metabolic complications of obesity; the surgical management of morbid obesity and its associated problems; advanced clinical management of the bariatric patient; optional module; research methods; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Examples include but are not limited to OSCE's, examinations, report writing, case scenarios and presentations.
