Psychological Medicine

Mind and body function together and psychological medicine looks at the fascinating interface between medicine and mental health. This programme will aim both to inform and equip the doctor and mental health practitioner with the necessary skills to function in a modern clinical environment specialising in caring for the patient affected by psychopathology � organic and psychological, and will be relevant to day to day NHS hospital and general practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a medical 1st degree, or hold appropriate professional qualifications and be able to demonstrate suitable background knowledge and skills.

Course modules

Modules include: Evidence based medicine; assessment and consultation in psychological medicine; organic psychiatry; brief therapy interventions in mental health; psychopharmacology; family law and opinion for the courts; medico-legal practice and criminal proceedings; research dissertation.

Assessment methods

The dissertation is assessed by the production of a substantial and in-depth dissertation which either critically review and analyses and element of psychological medicine or describes original academic research by the student.
