Medical Leadership and Management
Doctors need to do more than just heal, they also need to effectively lead and manage teams. In the modern health environment a proportion of them must lead and manage our complex health service. This course aims to educate doctors in the principles of leadership and management and is suitable for doctors at all stages of their careers.
Applicants must hold a medical 1st degree, or hold appropriate professional qualifications and be able to demonstrate suitable background knowledge and skills. Applications are invited from: NHS staff; health professionals from overseasthose with related undergraduate degrees (e.g. Dietetics) or equivalent professional qualifications and background experience.
Modules include: Manager learning and continuous professional development; leading and managing people; managing change in the health service; leadership and performance management in the health service; research methods for medical leadership; management research dissertation.
Assessment methods include a dissertation for which the assessment includes a review paper and an academic research article (suitable for publication in an appropriate research journal).
