Nutrition and Dietetics

This is a professional programme which provides an award in nutrition and dietetics together with eligibility for registration as a dietician with the Health Professions Council (UK); the programme is commisioned by the North West NHS Executive in response to the increasing demand for dieticians within the clinical setting.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in food, nutrition, biological or health sciences that includes modules in human physiology, biochemistry, and other relevant science e.g. immumology, genetics, microbiology, or food science; applicants must also visit a dietetic department prior to applying for the course; suitable applicants must also attend a personal interview and participate in a group activity, and complete a satisfactory health check and enhanced clearing from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Course modules

Year 1: Evidence based nutrition; food and nutrition for health; nutritional science; sociology and psychology and public health; dietetics and clinical medicine 1; placement A; year 2: dietetics and clinical medicine 2; placement B; placement C.

Assessment methods

Most modules are assessed using a combination of coursework and assignments or examinations; coursework may include practical reports, data interpretation, essays and presentations.
