Public Health Nutrition

This programme meets current training needs regionally, nationally and internationally, to produce graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to work as public health nutritionists in health, education, government and non-government departments; graduates from this course are eligible to apply for direct entry to the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) as associate nutritionists; the programme is supported by a series of professional and research seminars to assist with the integration of subjects, to develop both professional and research awareness, and to assist career development.

Entry requirements

Minimum of lower 2nd Class Honours degree grounded in physiology, biochemistry, food, nutrition, biological or health sciences; applications from those without a science degree, who have an interest and experience of working in related areas, are also considered.

Course modules

Core modules: Professional perspectives; sociology and psychology and public health; nutrition in health and disease; public health promotion and policy; research methods and data analysis; developing healthier communities.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods may include 4000-word assignments or equivalent (e.g. poster presentations); Master's students are required to submit a dissertation.
