The purpose of the MRes applied science is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to undertake academic research in their chosen discipline. The disciplines currently offered under this scheme are: cardiovascular disease, cancer biology, diabetes, immunology, inflammation, mathematical modelling, sports physiology. Students will complete 2 apppropriate taught modules providing formal research methods training and practical skills training. Students will then complete a substantial research project which will be assessed through the production of a review paper and research paper based on their research.
Applicants should normally have, or expect to obtain, at least a Lower 2nd Class Honours degree in a discipline appropriate to their intended area of research; applicants shall also satisfy the requirements for English language, where English is not their first language: IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in any band) or TOEFL 575 (or 90 for the internet-based test) is the minimum requirement).
