The focus of the programme is on applied and computational mathematics; as well as developing subject-specific skills in numerical analysis and mathematical modelling (which are applicable in areas as diverse as the biosciences, the finance sector and engineering), students also develop valuable transferable skills, including IT skills, and the ability to tackle problems logically and efficiently.
Minimum of lower 2nd Class Honours degree in mathematics-related subject.
Core modules: Differential equations and their applications; integral equations; information and communications technology for mathematics research; numerical linear algebra; fractional differential equations; partial differential equations; numerical methods: Convergence and stability theory; differential geometry; mathematical modelling.
Assessment is achieved through a combination of coursework and examination. MSc students are required to complete a project and a dissertation.
