Biomedical Science

This is a vocationally-oriented course specifically designed for those students wishing to gain an advanced education in the biomedical science field, either in industry or within the health sector; the course provides preparation for the Higher Specialist IBMS (The Institute of Biomedical Science) examination and Advanced Practice in Biomedical Science; the MSc award permits eligibility for the status of fellow member of the IBMS (FIBMS) and subsequently Chartered Scientist (CSci) status.

Entry requirements

An appropriate 1st degree with a minimum of Lower 2nd Class Honours, or an appropriate professional qualification and ability to demonstrate suitable background knowledge and skills.

Course modules

Core modules: Research methods in biomedical science; clinical medicine and cellular pathology; analytical and molecular techniques in biomedical science; current issues in biomedical science; blood sciences; clinical immunology and microbial pathogenesis; research dissertation (MSc award).

Assessment methods

The programme is assessed by a variety of coursework assignments, which may focus on laboratory reports, posters, essays or data manipulation exercises.
