Sustainability for Community and Business

This programme examines the contested nature of sustainability and the challenges for its achievement against a backdrop of climate change and resource depletion; it examines how communities and businesses are responding to these challenges and how they can work together to achieve common goals.

Entry requirements

A minimum of lower 2nd Class Honours, or equivalent, in geography, business, environmental science, social science or a cognate discipline; candidates with equivalent professional qualification and/or demonstrable relevant professional experience are also considered.

Course modules

Modules include: The (un)sustainability challenge; sustainable communities; sustainability and the business environment; resource sustainability; researching sustainability; leadership for sustainability; sustainability project.

Assessment methods

Each module is assessed by coursework; the nature of this work varies between the taught modules and ranges from presentations and reports to portfolios, case study reviews, podcasts and a research proposal, each equivalent to 4000 words per module; the sustainability project can be completed as a consultancy/project design report, a dissertation or a research article with supporting commentary (each equivalent to 12000 words).
