Psychology Conversion

This programme is for people who have degrees in other subjects, but who wish to obtain Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) (formerly known as Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR)) with the British Psychological Society; the 1st necessary step towards becoming a professional psychologist.

Entry requirements

Minimum of upper 2nd Class Honours degree; applicants should demonstrate that they have the equivalent of at least half an academic year of psychology i.e. 60 credits or equivalent; students who have not already completed 60 credits/half an academic year of psychology are required to complete a PgCert bridging programme of an additional 60 credits of psychology; students who successfully complete the bridging programme then have the opportunity to immediately commence onto the PgDip/MSc course.

Course modules

Core modules: Researching thought and behaviour; cognitive psychology; social psychology; biological psychology; developmental psychology; individual differences; dissertation.

Assessment methods

There are no examinations on this course; students are assessed via coursework and practical-type reports in all modules; a wide range of assessment methods are utilised which are designed to develop research and transferable skills; these may include quantitative/qualitative research reports or case studies, individual and group presentations, paper reviews, or even a critical book review.
