Global Health

This programme is specifically designed for health professionals, policy makers and managers working in the area of health, environment and social care development; it aims to equip them with the skills, knowledge and approaches to develop and deliver effective community-based programmes in developing and developed countries; internationally, it is suitable for those who work for governments' health ministries, including nurses, medical doctors, allied health professionals, social workers etc., and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and environmental agencies; students undertaking this programme increase their employability in situations where knowledge of global health developments is a desirable or an essential requirement.

Entry requirements

1st degree (2nd Class Honours or above) or equivalent qualification; in certain circumstances, candidates without a 1st degree but with exceptional, high level professional responsibility, experience and motivation are admitted directly to Master's level study on the provision of evidence demonstrating their capability to study at this level; applicants should provide evidence of recent study or writing at an appropriate level; applicants are required to attend an interview; IELTS level 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in each band.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Principles of global health epidemiology; global health in context; global public health protection; dissertation and research methodology; optional modules: global health in action; global health policy for development; health policy and economics; global perspectives of child and maternal health; global mental health; promoting public health practice; the environmental determinants of health.

Assessment methods

The programme is assessed through a range of written assignments, examinations, poster presentations, seminar presentations, individual case study, viva, learning profile, practice assessment, reflective accounts.
