Intercultural Psychotherapy (Theory and Research)

The course offers an opportunity to use cultural competence models to explore a range of psychotherapies; it also supports students to examine the relationship of psychotherapy to the practices of traditional healers; the course explores cultural competence in 3 different types of psychotherapies: individual therapy (cognitive behavioural therapy); group therapy (group psychotherapy); non-verbal therapy (art psychotherapy).

Entry requirements

The programme is open to students with an undergraduate degree in a related subject area; students who do not have a degree but do have a professional qualification, in a related subject area, should contact the programme leader to discuss the suitability of the course to their needs.

Course modules

Intercultural communication; traditional healing and healers; intercultural approach (cognitive behavioural psychotherapy); intercultural approach (art psychotherapy); intercultural approach (group psychotherapy); research; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Presentations and written assignments.
