University of Chichester
The University of Chichester provides social work awards in partnership with West Sussex Children and Adult Services and other partners from the voluntary, independent and private sector organisations. Practice is seen as central to the programme as an experiential base for learning, supported by a rigorous tutorial system, designed to help students integrate academic learning with their experience in social work and social care. As a result we have an excellent record in providing students with high quality, relevant practice placements.
1st or 2nd class Honours degree, normally in a social science subject. Social work or social care experience of up to 6 months or equivalent part-time (paid or voluntary). GCSE English and mathematics at grade C or above or equivalent. A satisfactory enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check. A minimum IELTS score of 7 on each module i.e. reading, writing and listening (from those for whom English is not their 1st language).
Level 1: Students are prepared for assessed practice; social work is introduced to students as a subject and links are made between social work and the following areas: sociology; social policy; human development. Level 2: Focus is on practice learning and experience, which is provided through 100 days in a practice placement; these are linked to the following campus-based modules: social work methods; the law; ethics, values and power; mental health; disability. Level 3: Involves another 100 days of practice learning and experience, this time in a contrasting setting with different service users; 2 options are available to study: working with children and families or adult services; the applied research module provides the foundation for writing a dissertation.
