Sport Coaching Science

This course is highly vocational in nature and beneficial to those either wishing to seek future employment in sports coaching science, or, those currently employed within a professional club or organisation. The advent of this course is in response to the marked growth in career opportunities available to sports coaching scientists across a range of sporting clubs and organisations.

Entry requirements

Honours degree (2.1) in a related area (e.g. sport science, coaching science) with a high proportion of study in coaching science related modules. Some applicants may not meet these standard academic requirements, but may still be desirable course members with other appropriate and equivalent skills and knowledge (e.g. coaching or work experiences). In such cases the applicant may apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL).
Additional requirements:
1. Minimum Level Two coach;
2. Hold current coaching insurance;
3. Hold a current and satisfactory DBS check (or equivalent);
4. Have attended a current Safeguarding and Protecting Children course (or equivalent)

Course modules

Modules currently available are: independent study module (elective); applied techniques in exercise physiology (elective); applied performance analysis (elective); motor control and skill acquisition; applied coaching practice (work placement, double credit module); research methods and statistics 1; research methods and statistics 2; the research dissertation.

Assessment methods

Each module is assessed by the equivalent of a 4,000-word assignment.
