Special Educational Needs Co-Ordination (SENCO)

This programme attracts teachers from West Sussex, East Sussex, Brighton and Hove, Hampshire, Portsmouth, Surrey and the Isle of Wight. The University has developed a strong collaboration with local authorities to ensure that it supports both local and national requirements and they involve both national and international consultants to work with them in delivering a relevant and up-to-date programme.

Entry requirements

If you are a SENCO/inclusion manager new to the role from September 2013 or will become a SENCO within the academic year of the programme, you are eligible to apply. We also welcome experienced SENCOs who are interested in gaining the national award. Please download an application form and return it with the letter of endorsement which is attached to the application form.

Course modules

Topics include: implementing the new special educational needs (SEN) (0- 25years) code of practice and requirements of the local offer; developing their leadership and management skills; managing and deploying the SEN team; understanding and using data to ensure pupils are making progress and achieving; working with colleagues to create inclusive learning environments; developing positive partnerships with parents and other agencies; working strategically to promote achievement for all pupils with different abilities and backgrounds.
