Primary Education (General Primary with French Specialism, 5-11 years)

This course will equip you with all the skills needed to become an effective primary French teacher. You will engage in recognising the tensions and dilemmas associated with the interface between theory and practice and evaluate and reflect upon your planning and practice and the concept of a reflective practitioner. You will study language teaching rationale and methodology alongside subject leadership.

Entry requirements

Normally a 1st degree, or its equivalent with a minimum of 2.2 Honours; if you don�t have an undergraduate degree but do have a Masters or other higher qualification your application will be considered by our academic tutors on a one-to-one basis. An A-level grade C or equivalent in French; where the applicant does not possess this, appropriate language competencies in French (e.g. through extended stay in a French-speaking country) will also be considered. 3 GCSEs at minimum grade C or above to include English language, mathematics and science (including biology, chemistry or physics). All successful applicants must have met this requirement by 31 July 2015. Successful completion of the QTS skills test in literacy and numeracy by 31 July 2015. A minimum 10 days experience in a mainstream UK primary school covering key stage 1 and key stage 2 (5 days in each key stage) gained within the last 2 years. A satisfactory academic (university) reference AND a satisfactory professional reference if more than 3 years since academic study; the ability to discriminate key ideas and express arguments. All candidates must demonstrate professional suitability through interview and must obtain medical and enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance according to established university procedures.

Course modules

Modules include:meeting children�s and young people�s needs within and beyond the curriculum; the creative and effective curriculum; reflective practice; pedagogical excellence in key stage 1 and 2.
