Learning and Teaching for Higher Education

This course will help you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the practice of teaching and the support of student learning in higher education, and to advance your professional skills within your own working context. The programme involves critical engagement with contemporary learning theory and practice, with emphasis on professional values and skills in your own work role, subject discipline and context.

Entry requirements

1st or 2nd Class Honours degree. Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course via APL procedures.

Course modules

Foundations of academic practice (30 credits); advancing academic practice (30 credits); leadership in changing academic contexts (30 credits); discipline, research and scholarship as academic practice (30 credits); mentorship and coaching (30 credits); independent study (30 credits); planning enquiry (30 credits); dissertation (60 credits).

Assessment methods

Critical review of literature; patchwork texts; reflective journals; case studies; research and evaluation papers; research proposals; publishable academic papers and portfolios.
