Applied Forensic Psychology

The course aims to provide a stimulating and challenging academic and scholarly environment for learners who wish to advance their academic and professional development beyond undergraduate level, through developing specialised knowledge and a critical awareness of issues at the forefront of applied forensic psychology. It's suitable for individuals with a professional interest in working within forensic and legal contexts, this may be with victims of crime, offenders and/or with staff working in these specialised contexts. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). The course has been designed to cover the application of psychology to forensic and legal issues. The main aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to develop a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a broad range of topics in forensic and legal psychology. Theoretical and practical issues pertinent to those working in forensic settings will be examined critically.

Entry requirements

1st or 2nd Class Honours degree. All candidates for this route must hold an undergraduate degree that confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) from the British Psychological Society.

Course modules

Modules include: Research skills and methods; professional values and ethics; forensic psychology, offending behaviour and the criminal justice system; settings in forensic psychology; working with specialist populations in forensic psychology settings; advanced statistics; dissertation.

Assessment methods may include: Case analysis; problem based learning; intervention design and evaluation; literature review; reflective account; academic essay; evidence based analysis; portfolio; presentation; web pages; written report; online assessment; research proposal; dissertation; written examination; academic poster.
