Policing Knowledge

This short programme (approved by the College of Policing) provides students with the required level of knowledge and understanding to undertake a professional career in policing. Entry to the police will be via one of the pre-join entry routes available through participating forces within England and Wales. Once a student has attained the award they will be eligible to apply to participating forces subject to their individual entry requirements and selection process.

Entry requirements

While desirable for applicants to be able to demonstrate competency in English language and have evidence of study at GCSE level, or equivalent, it is not necessary. Applicants who do not meet this standard minimum entry requirement will be accepted on the evidence of underpinning study, demonstration of the ability to benefit, plus any academic requirements necessary to satisfy the criteria of professional, statutory and regulatory body. While the police require no formal academic qualification, applicants should demonstrate they have a prospect of successfully completing the module. Applicants may be required to demonstrate basic competencies and skills via prior experiential learning and/or such diagnostic assessment procedures as are deemed appropriate.

Course modules

Modules include: Introduction to policing and legislation; policy and guidelines.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on a portfolio and examination.
