Evidence-Based Psychological Approaches (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

This award is suitable for practitioners who are involved in the delivery of health and social care/psychologically focused interventions across a range of disciplines, roles and service areas. We are amongst the UK's leading health and science faculties and have built up excellent working relationships with our clinical partners in Lancashire and Cumbria in supporting students in the development cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) practice.

Entry requirements

The award is suitable for practitioners who are involved in the delivery of health and social care/psychologically focussed interventions across a range of disciplines, roles and service areas. Normally applicants will be required to hold an Honours degree classification 2.2 or above in a cognate subject; or have a core profession recognised by the British Association for the Behavioural and Cognitive Psychologists (BABCP). For applicants who do not meet these requirements non-standard entry criteria will apply. It is expected that non-standard applicants will have evidence of successful study at level 6 (or equivalent) within the preceding 5 years'. Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis and potential students will be offered advice by an academic tutor on the suitability of the award and their module choice within the award, dependent on factors such as currency of prior learning, and their personal and professional development needs. Students should be able to show potential benefit from studying for the award and a commitment to attempting the assessment items.

Course modules

Modules included: Fundamentals of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT); CBT for anxiety disorders; CBT for depression.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods may include: Online discussion forums; observed role plays; peer reviews - class based and online; patchwork text reviews; written assignments.
