Applied Public Health

This is a multidisciplinary course which develops a critical understanding of the impact of the social determinants of health on the health of a population. This course provides students with the skills and expertise to critically evaluate and implement practical public health solutions, which are tailored to the environment in which they work.

Entry requirements

1st or 2nd Class Honours degree. Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course via Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) procedures.

Course modules

Mandatory modules: Public health and social change; global issues and public health; leadership in public health; research methods; dissertation. Students must study the equivalent of 40 credits from the following optional modules or claim credit for Prior Learning (APL): Building community capacity; migration and health; business management and commissioning in public health; facilitating health behaviour change; negotiated learning.

Assessment methods

Reports; case study; presentation; evidence based plan; research proposal; reflective analysis; demographic trends analysis; dissertation.
