Medical Ultrasound

This master�s degree is a new programme designed to address the current skills shortage in Medical Ultrasound. The course will provide the skills and underpinning professional knowledge to enable you to work as a Sonographer within the healthcare sector. It will provide a comprehensive set of clinical competencies in a range of Ultrasound specialisms, including obstetrics, gynaecology, general medical and basic vascular assessment.

Entry requirements

1st or 2nd Class Honours degree. Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course via accredited prior learning (APL) procedures.

Course modules

Modules include: Professional skills for safe practice: this module covers the basic physical principles of ultrasound and professional issues relating to clinical practice; obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasound (foundations); general medical ultrasound (foundations); qualificatory practise module (year 1); research methods; applied professional skills for safe practise; obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasound (advanced); general medical ultrasound (advanced); dissertation; qualificatory practise module (year 2).

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on coursework; presentations; reflective writing; verbal assessments; exams; reports.
