University of Derby
This programme provides you with a structured approach to studying at doctoral level eight. The programme is specially designed to support and inform professional practice in a wide range of occupations and work settings. The key focus is the supervised independent research component. The course allows flexibility allowing you to study around personal commitments.
You will usually hold a Master's award in an appropriate academic field and have an equivalent level of accomplishment through professional practice. You should have high levels of competence in English, if necessary demonstrated by IELTS 7.0. All suitable applicants will be interviewed. As the EdD programme is only delivered part-time we regret that we cannot take international students as this would contravene UKBA regulations.
Assessments provide a variety and range of tasks which go beyond the requirements of the academic essay. During this course you will be required to undertake the following: an analysis of the nature of practitioner research within professional practice (5000 words); a reflective literature review focused on your area of study (5000 words); an extended essay (10,000 words) justifying your chosen educational research methodology for your professional research; viva voce examination: a professionally researched thesis (50 - 55,000 words).
