University of Derby
This course is for qualified graduates with good Honours degrees who are keen to progress immediately to a research experience in their preparations for a career in which the ability to undertake research will play a key role. Traditional route PhD entails a course of research which normally takes three years of full-time study, though you can choose to take it part-time over a period of up to six years. The traditional route enables capable and qualified individuals to pursue an original research investigation into a chosen topic within a field of inquiry.
We normally expect you to have a 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree, a Master's degree from a UK university, or qualifications that we consider to be equivalent. The faculty must also be satisfied that the candidate has the necessary command of the English language to undertake a research investigation. Copies of English language qualifications should be included where appropriate. Please note that for research programmes a minimum of IELTS level of 7.0 or better is expected.
