Specialist Community Public Health Nursing

Students study clinical practice and development, and will develop their leadership skills throughout the course. Students also gain an in depth knowledge of professional roles and functions and are encouraged to bring about integrated and high quality health and social care.

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree (or above); or an equivalent qualification. Entry on an appropriate part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register; applicants should be working in an area which enables achievement of the individual pathway aims and module learning outcomes.

Course modules

Modules include: specialist professional issues and continuing professional development (health visiting and school nursing); public health, inequality and associated vulnerability; leadership and management in a commissioning based health care environment; research methodologies (application to advanced practice); independent scholarship. Plus 1 of the following modules: child and adolescent mental health; child development; clinical supervision; ethical and legal issues.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through exams, observations, assignments, presentation and a practice portfolio. Students will also be assessed on their placement by the practice teacher.
