Acoustics and Noise Control

This course is delivered by an experienced academic team, with locally based consultants providing guest speakers to enhance learning. During the course students will develop the practical and problem-solving skills to become a professional practitioner in the field of acoustics. The course is designed with a view to furthering professional development and enhancing employability. This diploma can also lead to Associate Membership of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA).

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree or diploma or HND. Non-standard entry is possible for experienced candidates.

Course modules

Modules include: general principles of acoustics; laboratory and experimental methods; project; building acoustics; regulation and assessment of noise; environmental noise: prediction, measurement and control; noise and vibration control engineering.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and examination. Coursework is comprised of laboratory reports and a small number of nationally-set assignments. The examinations normally take place in June, and there are 3 examinations in total.
