Conservation Biology

The futures of many species are under threat, with the extinction rate estimated between 1,000 and 10,000 higher than it would be naturally. This course gives you the opportunity to explore the underlying reasons for these threats, and supports you to develop the skills needed to identify environmental issues and find practical solutions. Our facilities include a glasshouse featuring plants from diverse habitats, an insectary housing many different species, and specialist laboratories. The latest addition is our Aquatic Research Facility, which has been developed in collaboration with the Sealife Centre, Birmingham. You'll undertake fieldwork in a range of habitats from the Peak District countryside to a tropical location, and you'll be taught by our excellent team of active international researchers, with research skills in conservation biology and environmental management. Learning from active researchers means you'll gain contemporary knowledge, based on the very latest findings and trends in the sector.
