Sport and Exercise

We've developed this course to allow you to focus on the sport and exercise discipline of your choice, so you can tailor your learning to your own interests. You can research many aspects of sport and exercise, from competitive professional sport through to recreational exercise for health. We will provide you with access to a skilled team of professionals with experience conducting and publishing research, who can mentor you through your development as a researcher. Our facilities provide an excellent research environment. You'll have access to our specialist Sports Centre, laboratories and equipment. This includes laboratories for the physiological assessment of athletes, a specialist strength and conditioning area, biomechanics suite and specialist performance analysis hardware and software. You'll also have access to facilities to conduct private interviews and focus groups. The clear emphasis on research means that this course provides a strong platform for progression to a wide range of careers. You may wish to become a researcher in an academic, public or commercial sector. Students often go on to undertake doctoral research to obtain a PhD. Our course is flexible to suit your own individual requirements to combine study and work.

Course modules

Modules include: independent research; negotiated module in sport and exercise; research methods: application and evaluation; planning and managing research; research ethics; information literacy; research leadership, risk and enterprise; the art of thesis writing; getting research published.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: essays, portfolios, a dissertation, blogs, presentations and a viva voce.
