University of Derby
Police Leadership, Strategy and Organisation
The course aims to go beyond traditional public sector skills and generic leadership programmes. It provides an in-depth knowledge of the critical issues surrounding police accountability and independence, policing effectiveness and performance, and organisational transformation. It will stretch and inspire participants to take their leadership skills to the highest professional standards. It offers a combination of the latest business and management thinking, criminology and social sciences, all applied to the complex challenges of contemporary policing. It has been launched at a time of calls for greater public accountability, the growing importance of community partnerships and, in some quarters, a crisis of confidence in the integrity of police services.
Modules may include: policing and accountability; police leadership and organisational transformation; applied research in criminal justice systems; partnerships and policing; what works in policing; policing and criminal investigation across the world; cyber crime 1: evidence and digital investigation; cyber crime 2: investigation and prosecution of cybercrime; financial investigation models; criminal investigation 1: principles of investigation; investigating serious crime; investigating sexual offences; independent studies in policing.
Assessment is through 100 per cent coursework.
