Applied Sport and Exercise Science
This course enables you to focus on the sport and exercise science discipline of your choice, so you can tailor your learning to specialise in psychology, physiology, or a mixture of both. You'll work with our teaching team of experts in sport and exercise psychology, physiology, exercise and health, strength and conditioning, biomechanics and performance analysis, and nutrition, so you'll have access to guidance in the field of your choice. Our partnerships with Team Derby and the Derbyshire Institute of Sport, for example, will provide you with the opportunity to work with athletes in a real-world setting and develop your applied skills as a practitioner. Successful completion of the course will help you to pursue a wide range of careers such as working in applied practice as a high-level sport scientist or within health sectors to promote and support healthy lifestyles.
Modules include: applied practitioner development; advanced research methods; advanced sport psychology; advanced sport and exercise physiology; independent research.
Students will complete both summative and formative assessment throughout the course to include written essays, reports and case studies, oral presentations, and viva-voce exams. Students' will be assessed on their practical skills, their application of scientific knowledge to practitioner settings, and their ability to critically evaluate the role and requirements of an applied practitioner.
