University of Derby
As one of the UK’s leading Universities for online distance learning, the University of Derby Online Learning (UDOL) are dedicated to providing structured and supported postgraduate degrees available to study completely through online learning. We have now been providing online and distance learning solutions to students worldwide for over 10 years!
Our courses have been specially designed for online learning giving you access to study at any time via your computer or mobile device. Learning materials are presented in an engaging way, encouraging interactivity and collaboration throughout the course. Our students enjoy the flexibility to study alongside their career or other commitments, without the need to attend fixed lectures or travel to our Derby campus in the UK.
UDOL students come from every continent and corner of the globe, not just the UK. As a student with us you will automatically become part of this global network of learners across the USA, Middle East, India, Australia, Hong Kong and beyond! Each of our students has their own story and culture to share, enabling you to learn from and network with a wider array of personalities than would ever be possible in an on-campus course.
Our postgraduate programmes cover a wide variety of subjects including Business and Management, Engineering, Finance, Hospitality, Education, Psychology, Environmental Sciences, Healthcare and more. UDOL courses are designed alongside key industry stakeholders to ensure their content is cutting-edge and relevant to the modern world. Our partnerships and accreditations with organisations such as the British Psychological Society, Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Hospitality provide additional benefits including free student memberships to their professional bodies and access to academic journals and publications.
Our academic teams are highly qualified experts in their respective fields and specialists in online learning. They will ensure you have a valuable and enriching learning experience. You'll have the opportunity to engage with your tutors and fellow students from around the world, through online discussion boards, cafe forums, wikis, blogs, Skype and online live taught sessions.
Additionally you can choose from three start dates – September, February or May. You can apply online at any time to secure your place on one of our courses.
At UDOL our academic team is heavily invested in research across a huge variety of disciplines. They have extensive research backgrounds and relationships with organisations like the British Computing Society and many engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations to break new ground in research. Our recent successes introducing free MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) programmes on topics such as dementia led to academics presenting their papers at conferences in Westminster, New York and across the UK.
As part of your postgraduate degree at UDOL you will be encouraged to engage in your own research to examine cutting edge, world-changing technologies and topics in your field such as additive manufacturing, financial engineering and gamification in learning.

At the University of Derby Online Learning (UDOL) it’s recognised that students need a range of support whilst developing new skills and knowledge. We also believe that the online experience should be as closely aligned to the campus experience as possible. Thus we developed the ‘virtual campus’ experience implementing processes such as an online orientation, formative assessment and feedback opportunities and individualized learning to develop employability aptitudes such as social responsibility, integrity and awareness.
Learning materials are developed by our expert in-house team of content developers to create an engaging experience. Alongside your course materials you will also be regularly invited to engage in webinars, skype conferences and online discussions. Within each of these you will have the opportunity to engage with subject-matter experts and share your insights with your peers from a wide variety of different backgrounds and cultures.
As there are no fixed timetables for lectures, online learners need to be self-motivated, able to manage their own time and driven to succeed. To guide you through this as an online learner at Derby you'll also benefit from the support and guidance provided by your personal online learner advisor who will remain a key contact for you throughout your course for any non-academic assistance. Student wellbeing, careers and employability, library and study skills teams also support communication by email, phone and Skype and provide a range of live webinars in each trimester. At the end of the programme students will continue to receive three years support from the careers department.
