International Oil and Gas Law and Policy (distance learning)

The programme is designed for lawyers and non-lawyers to gain an understanding of the legal and regulatory environment and processes in the international energy and resources industries. It is suitable for those aspiring to be practising lawyers, legal advisers, contract managers and negotiators in these industries.

Entry requirements

LLM: Applicants should have a good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK Honours degree, preferably at 2.1 Honours level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a 2.2 Honours degree may also apply. Degree certificates and academic transcripts must be provided. Preferred degree disciplines are law, economics, geology, petroleum or mining engineering, finance. Work experience in the energy/natural resources industry is an advantage, though it is not a strict requirement for admission to the LLM. IELTS of 6.5 (or equivalent), if the 1st language is not English.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: natural resources sectors (a multidisciplinary introduction); dissertation or internship; international petroleum law and policy; national and comparative oil and gas law; downstream energy law and policy; oil and gas law (commercial contracts matrix); petroleum policy and economics; transnational investment law and policy.

Assessment methods

Dissertation; internship report; PhD proposal.
