Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (PGDip)

The programme is designed to equip mental health professionals with the fundamental skills in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy of direct relevance to routine clinical practice; the programme consists of lectures, seminars, skills-focused workshops and supervised clinical practice, presented in 3 inter-related parts: a consideration of the theoretical foundation, the development of practice skills, and supervised clinical practice.

Entry requirements

Applications are welcome from clinicians with professional qualifications in mental health. Consideration will also be given, on a case by case basis, to experienced counsellors working in the private or voluntary sectors. Please check our website for English language requirements.

Course modules

Fundamental principles and basis therapeutic competencies; core treatment strategies; cognitive behavioural psychotherapy and specific disorders; critical appraisal and meaning from data.

Assessment methods

A distinct benefit for students is the teaching of skills through structured role-playing exercises to develop clinical/counselling skills. In addition all students undertake supervised clinical practice with a range of different disorders.
