Applied Mathematics (MSc)

The focus of this course is using mathematics to solve real world problems, such as in finance, energy, engineering or scientific research. This course suits graduates with a degree in mathematics or in a subject with strong mathematical components such as physics, who wish to deepen their mathematical knowledge and related skills.

Entry requirements

Students should have a 2.2 Honours BSc or above (or a suitable qualification) in a relevant mathematical discipline.

Course modules

Typical modules include: dynamical systems; computational modelling; statistics and stochastic models; inverse problems; mathematical oncology; mathematical ecology and epidemiology; mathematical physiology; fluid dynamics; optimisation in finance and energy; personal transferable skills.

Assessment methods

Assessment is via a mix of open book continual assessment and closed book examinations, with a substantial project completed over the summer.
