Four UEA Faculties provide research-led teaching with academic rigor in a range of subjects across the Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Medicine and Health Sciences. Degrees are offered in these Faculties as full-time and part-time options, and include professional studies such as teaching, medicine, law and business, as well as a number of short course professional development opportunities. Postgraduate Scholarships, Bursaries and PhD Studentships are available to students within the four Faculties and are usually awarded on the basis of academic merit, usually for the duration of the period of study. This uniquely-placed University is part of the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe's biggest concentrations of researchers in the fields of environmental, health and plant science. In the latest Research Excellent Framework (REF) 2014 UEA came 10th in the UK for the quality of its research output and 21st overall out of all mainstream British institutions. The results show that more than 82% of UEA research is classified as either ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’, confirming UEA’s position as a premier research institution, committed to making a substantial impact on the global challenges facing society. Postgraduate students at UEA have access to a range of supportive resources and facilities to assist their studies. The network of professional Student Services offer information, advice, practical help and specialist resources to enable you to take full advantage of the opportunities offered at this advanced level of study. Sporting facilities on campus include the Sportspark, which houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool and regularly hosts local and international athletic events. UEA also offers the world famous Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and hosts an International Literary Festival that featuring famous names such as Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro and Anne Enright (all UEA Creative Writing course alumni). The Library is open all hours throughout the year, offering access to more than 800,000 volumes of books and journals, a range of electronic resources including major bibliographic and citation databases, an extensive audio-visual collection, plus an inter-lending and document supply service. There are IT hubs across UEA, a high-speed network connecting the whole campus and a wireless network for laptop and mobile access. The Language Learning support service provides students with the opportunity to learn to speak another language, with classes from beginner to advanced levels in every language from Arabic to British Sign Language, Mandarin Chinese to Spanish.
